Case Study: Jason is 14 months old and is still very much unresponsive when someone calls his name. Melissa (teacher) and other children in the facility have repeatedly tried to call on Jason to play or join them in an activity, but Jason doesn’t turn to look. Sometimes, out of frustration, Melissa will yell at Jason. However, in most scenarios, Melissa holds her frustrations well and calmly grabs Jason’s hand and brings him with the rest of the group. It’s frustrating on a lot of occasions, but most staff, including Melissa, accepted the challenges in working with Jason. What did Melissa do well when it came to working with Jason? What do you think Jason is struggling with? What can the staff do to express their concerns? What will you do in this scenario to help Jason develop more steadily?
